2025 Solar Farming Rejection

The Marr Solar Farm project in Doncaster was unanimously rejected by the City of Doncaster Council’s planning committee. The committee concluded that the perceived benefits of building the farm on green belt land did not "clearly outweigh" the harms, despite the recommendation from planning officers. The project received over 1,270 representations, with objections from members of the public. The Marr Parish Council member, Pamela Moorhouse, noted that it would take eight years before planting would offer any concealment of the site, which would be detrimental to the character of the rural village. The council members, including Cynthia Ransome, Oliver Bloor, and Rachel Reed, spoke against the proposals, highlighting concerns about the impact on local businesses and the community.

The Court of Appeal upheld a Costs Judge's decision to disallow an executor's professional fees due to the absence of an express provision in the deceased's will allowing the solicitor-executors to charge for their time, as well as the lack of written consent from the executors. The case highlights the importance of having clear provisions in a will regarding executor fees and the necessity of obtaining consent when required.
